Does the Universe Have a Purpose?
I had a deep conversation with philosopher Philip Goff about the evidence for God.
I’d like welcome Philip Goff to the podcast. Philip is a British author, philosopher, and professor at Durham University Universities whose research focuses on philosophy of mind and consciousness. In this episode we discuss his latest book “Why: The Purpose of the Universe”. In this episode we discuss topics such as evidence for the existence of God, what physics says about the probability of there being a God, and whether the universe has a purpose. We also discuss the function of religion in society and Philip’s own views on what form God would take based on the latest evidence.
This is a deep one. If you have a listen, do let me know what you think in the comments!
You can listen to the audio-only version wherever you get your podcasts (Apple, Spotify, iHeartRadio). If you enjoy listening to my podcast, please consider writing a positive 5-star review on Apple. It would mean a lot to me!
After 48 years as a fundamentalist Christian, I finally realised I didn't believe in that God. My reasons are very similar to Philip's as to why I don't believe in an all-knowing, all-powerful, benevolent but ultimately deranged and psychopathic being that wants to burn people who don't want to play with his child.
I have sensed that there is more than chance in our existence, and to my eyes, I see design in the scientific discoveries made so far. I enjoyed listening to the different theories, and feel more confident in looking for the "religion" that best resonates with me.
